PC Maintenance Tips Lets
take a look below at some of the things you can do to help
keep your pc optimized and in a workable condition. 1.
Perform regular virus scans - It is recommended that all pc
users perform virus scans on their computers to avoid
receiving infections which could result in malicious keys
being formed within your registry. 2. Limit start up
programs - In order to ensure that your pc is able to boot
into windows quickly you should disable any unnecessary items
which may slow it down. This can be done by running the
command " msconfig " under "run " which
will allow you to enable and disable different programs which
run at system startup. 3. Watch disk space - Always make
sure that your hard drive has at least 500 megabytes of disk
space free to avoid sluggish performances and application
functionality problems. You can perform a disk clean up which
is located under system tools. 4. Defrag your system -
Another way to keep your system running smooth is to perform a
system defrag once every week. This will help keep files on
your hard drive allocated to their correct clusters and
prevent poor data processing when it comes to performing
tasks. 5. Backup information - Always keep your important
data backed up on a dvd or cd in case of an emergency. Do not
avoid this as if your system becomes corrupted you stand to
lose everything. 6. Store software disks - Keep record and
storage of any important system related disks you may have in
case you need to re-install a particular program or device
driver. This also includes your operating system disk which is
most crucial and will be needed if your system is not able to
boot. 7. Peripherals - Never under any circumstances should
you unplug system components or the power supply connector
when your computer is running as it could cause a short
circuit and destroy your motherboard. 8. Delete cache files
- You should delete temporary internet files and clear your
cache to free up space on your hard drive. This can be done
via internet options under the tools menu.
